The Pandemic Gap

For those of you returning or entering high school in the fall, now is a great time to get a jump on your upcoming tests and to solidify your fundamental skills. As most of you know, online school produced mixed results for many. We have noticed some students possess deep deficiencies in their core knowledge. One example: we have students currently in calculus but struggle with basic algebra and geometry. Prepandemic, students had simply forgotten what they learned as first-years or sophomores. Once reminded of the basic concepts, they were comfortably on track. Now, it seems online classes played havoc with fundamentals for many of our middle and high school students.

Neither the SAT nor the ACT requires calculus. Rather, each demands clear understanding of more elementary mathematics: geometry, algebra, and data analysis. The Reading and Writing sections test comprehension of dense passages and expect a comfortable working knowledge of English grammar. Students can make up a great deal during the summer to gain lost ground, necessary for college entrance exams, in college, and beyond.

We can help to sharpen some edges, stabilize a weak foundation, and provide a boost of confidence. In addition to what students need for the SAT and ACT, we provide support in biology, chemistry, physics, calculus (AB and BC), American history, European history, and Spanish.

You can do it, and we can help.
